The disabled youth are often left behind un-attended to in poor families due to the poverty conditions. The other people of the families are often going out for work and the disabled youth are left in homes alone. As days are passing, they become frustrated and move their days in misery and cursing their lives. Though others are sympathetic; but do not pay much attention to the disabled people. The rural families are resource poor and most of the people are illiterate and with these conditions, they are not even ready to send their children for schooling and thinking of the disabled ones. The disabled people are left out in a dungeon of misery and dark life. And in the case of disabled people, most of them become beggars wandering on the streets, roads and as destitute. The cases of girls who become beggars often face serious problems and even get suicides and killed by others. When they go out for begging, they are attacked and raped. There are many skill-development trainings, but they are not being reached to these unfortunate lives due to the project areas’ remote status, inability of the proposed disabled ones owing to physical status, financial constraints and illiteracy. Now with the high cost of living has deeply affected the disabled youths as people are not willing to help them with food or money as it used to be in the past many people have also been affected by the crisis and they are not in position to help. Presently the disable people are now living in a difficult situation of poverty, hunger and hopelessness. The living conditions of these disabled people is worsening as most of them come from the rural poor families and they do not have skills or capital to help them start income generating projects or find jobs.
PROJECT
As a way of responding to the problems facing disabled youth. We propose to address the problems by providing skill development trainings. We seek to offer vocational skill trainings to the selected disabled youths in tailoring, knitting, soap making and bakery. The skills will equip the disabled youth with relevant necessary skills to enable them be self-reliant and Increase their chances to access job opportunities hence improving their livelihood conditions by being able to meet their basic needs. The project targets the disabled youth from rural poor families and who will be recruited at different levels of intervention depending on prevailing situation. Priority will be given to the disabled youth from the completely illiterate poor families in rural areas. This will be determined through recruitment evaluation procedures with the assistance of local authorities and religious leaders. The organization is targeting to provide 55 youth with marketable skills. The organization aims to raise $3347 to enable it equip skills to 30 disabled youth females and 25 disabled youth males.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT
The plan and selection of the disabled youth is that though they have some schemes and provisions (reservations) to them by the government. But there are no such provisions in connection with the poorest of poor families of rural areas. There is beggary and even forced prostitution among the mentally disabled girls in rural areas and they are more disabled and will remain as curse in their homes with no one to fall back on and look after. The project will help disabled rural girls and boys to develop skills on various locally feasible and potential trades for their income, livelihood and life sustainability.
PROJECT OUT COMES
Specifically, the organization hopes to offer vocational skills trainings to the selected disabled youths in tailoring, knitting, soap making and bakery. These will equip them with relevant necessary skills to enable them be self-reliant and increase their chances to access jobs opportunities hence improving their livelihood conditions by being able to meet their basic household needs. The graduates on satisfactorily completion of their course will be able to start their own businesses thereby creating job opportunities for themselves and other community members as well.
