My name is Christine Jones. My daughter and I had to move in with my boyfriend a year ago. So, we had to put our belongings in a storage unit and my boyfriend agreed that he would pay on it and I wouldn't have to worry about it. Well, a couple months ago we were kicked out with nowhere to go by him. After being kicked out i started to worry about my belongings so I contacted my ex and asked for the number but he refused to give it to me. I found out that the unit is privately owned by trying to Google it with no luck. I literally had to hunt down the owner and when I did she seemed unaware of anything. She said she had to contact my ex to get permission to allow me in the unit since it was in his name as well as the balance owed. I never heard back so I called her again. She said that my ex gave her permission to allow me access as long as I paid the balance. She wasn't aware of the balance yet and haven't even checked. So I called her back a couple days later and almost fainted when she made me aware of the balance. She said that I owed 1,290 and that the unit hasn't been paid for an entire year. I was devastated and shocked as well as angry. I made her aware that I was homeless and that I wasn't expecting the balance to be that high. She basically acted like this was my fault when I wasn't even aware that he wasn't paying on the unit. I called her a couple days later to ask her if I could get my birth certificate out of the unit so that I could apply for emergency housing assistance. She denied me access and said that she wanted the balance in full up front ASAP. I made her aware that I was working on it but don't have that kind of money considering I am unemployed, in school, and am a single mother whom by the way is now homeless due to the man that never paid her. She seemed unphased and unconcerned honestly. I was hurt by how she was treating me especially when she has never even met me before. I decided to give it a couple days before calling her back and when I did she seemed even more hostile and disrespectful towards me. She said she has heard a lot about me and that I needed to pay her. I am assuming my ex has told her some pretty awful things about me considering how she talks to me. I haven't spoken with her since. I am terrified to talk to her honestly because I don't have the money. She has given me till the middle of next month to come up with the balance and I am absolutely terrified that I won't have it. Everything in that storage unit is everything my daughter and I own. I hold all of it dear to my heart because it is all I have left that another hasn't taken from me yet. The owners name is Lisa and her number is 217-781-2421 if you want to confirm that this isn't a scam. Hopefully she'll be nicer to someone else regarding my situation. That's if she'll even do so considering her perception of me. I can't lose everything we own and am begging for help please.
