A Cry for Help: Conaniah Chisoya’s Fight Against Prune Belly Syndrome and Chronic Kidney Disease
Son to Collins and Elizabeth Chisoya
Dear Friends, Supporters, and Well-Wishers,
We write to you with heavy hearts, but also with the strength and hope that comes from being parents to a brave little fighter. Our son, Conaniah Kisu Chisoya, was born on 23rd December 2021 at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia. From his first breath, he was in crisis — born prematurely, struggling to breathe, and later diagnosed with two life-threatening conditions: Prune Belly Syndrome and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
Today, Conaniah is just over 3 years old. He is on dialysis — and the only hope for his survival is a kidney transplant.
A Journey of Pain and Resilience
From infancy, Conaniah endured numerous hospital stays, daily blood tests, painful catheterizations, and surgeries — including a vesicostomy and ureter re-implantation. In March 2022, he was officially diagnosed with CKD, and by 2024, his condition had worsened to the point where dialysis became necessary.
He now undergoes regular dialysis sessions to survive. This process, though life-sustaining, is incredibly demanding on his little body and emotionally draining for us as a family. His immune system is compromised, and his diet is restricted to avoid complications that could worsen his condition.
Our Current Reality
Every day is a fight — not just for Conaniah, but for us as his parents and caregivers. We have altered our entire lifestyle to support him. We’ve stopped working full-time to care for him. He requires a strict renal diet, specialized medication, constant monitoring of his fluids, and frequent hospital visits.
Yet even dialysis is not a permanent solution. It is only buying time. The only real hope is a kidney transplant, and Zambia does not have pediatric transplant facilities. Seeking treatment abroad — most likely in India — is our only chance, but it is far beyond our financial means.
Why We Are Reaching Out
We are appealing to kind-hearted individuals, churches, organizations, and medical missions for help. We cannot do this alone.
Your support can help us:
* Sustain ongoing dialysis treatment and medication
* Cover nutritional needs and transportation for regular reviews
* Fund the cost of a kidney transplant abroad
* Explore international medical referrals and visa processing
How You Can Help
* Donate financially toward Conaniah’s treatment and transplant
* Share his story with your networks, churches, organizations, and well-wishers
