  • As the covid-19 ravages the Cameroon economy, cracking down economic, political and social sectors across the nation, inequalities deepens in five (5) principal sectors :
    1) Educational inequalities: as learning methods and approaches turns to the path of digital learning for survival In a country where only 15% of students and pupils have access to the interne and can affort the high cost of the internet, 80% of students and pupils do not have access to the internet because of limited infrastructure and high costs, only 44% of pupils and students have access to smartphones and computers that facilitate digital learning while 48% of the national territory has no electricity with 60% of the population living in slumps and less than 1dollar per day. There is the likelihood that the move to digital learning may worsen educational inequalities and digital divide problems.
    2) Economic inequalities: government policies may worsen the gab between the poor and the rich and further degrading the conditions of vulnerable groups and the poorest people in society as government is compensating larger companies, subsidizing small and medium size enterprises while low class citizens are experiencing opposite side of the drama thereby pushing the poorest people to the extreme of the poverty scale.
    3) Health inequalities : vulnerable groups like women, LGBTIQ people, girls, middle and low class citizens, indigenous population, disabled people, minorities and the less privileged have limited access to health facilities.
    4) Social inequalities: government policy is creating new threats to the human rights and freedoms that we all strive to protect. Our Government is using COVID-19 as a pretext to suppress independent speech, increase surveillance, and otherwise restrict fundamental rights, going beyond what is justified by public health needs. These emergency measures could have lasting consequences well after the pandemic is over. Meanwhile, human rights activists and journalists are being punished for their efforts to draw attention to inadequate governmental responses and human rights abuses .
    5) Gender inequalities:LGBTIQ people are the most marginalized.
