GET YOUNG UNEMPLOYED NIGERIANS BACK TO WORK

Unemployment is cancer to our society; it creeps in and slowly destroys individuals and groups caught in its wake. In Nigeria, the last couple of years has seen a scarily high unemployment rate among young people. Graduating from University no longer guarantees employment, and year-in-year-out the unemployment pool keeps getting larger, unabated. Presently, Nigeria’s unemployment figure stands at a surging 33%, meaning that in a country of over 200 million people, over 20 million young people (between 15-34years old) in their productive years are unemployed. This should alarm any progressive society, and inspire call-to-action to contain this monster before it swallows the rich and the poor. Unemployment is a major source of insecurity in any community, and it falls to the privileged in our society to do something that addresses and mitigates this crisis. Our government has very little that it can do to solve the outsized unemployment challenge in the nation; therefore, the onus is on private citizens and their organizations to proffer solutions within their sphere of influence and area of competence. Here in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, I am taking up the challenge to set up ventures in the Agriculture and Food Production sectors that will provide direct employment to 100 young Nigerians living in Akwa Ibom State. Within a period of 6 months, 100 new employees will earn a minimum of $120 and up to $361, monthly. To make this project achievable, I am selling 2,000 Square Meters of my property (land strategically located in Uyo City) to raise $100,000 to fund the businesses. This initiative is not alms-seeking, but a strategic approach to convert an existing asset to expand opportunities for the benefit of young Nigerians. I implore well-intentioned individuals, groups, and organizations to support this initiative by acquiring or referring a buyer for our property.
