Katie Dawson is a fourteen year old girl who should be out riding bikes, hanging with friends, and attending school. Unfortunately, this is not the case, at the age of nine years old Katie was diagnosed with epilepsy. As Katie has gotten older, her seizure disorder has progressively gotten worse, life threatening. Recently, Katie had just turned 14 years old and has been questioning her faith “Why would God do this to me?” is a question she frequently asks herself. As we are on the path to finding faith, one step to get her closer to healing mentally and physically, would be getting her a Seizure dog. A Seizure dog is a dog that response to the acts of seizure activity by stimulating the person, alerting caregivers, activating alarms, protect them from harm by putting their body between the seizing individual and opening doors and much more

Katie’s parents (Curtis & Heidi Dawson) are constantly having to care for her, accompany and take her everywhere she goes as they cannot ever leave her alone. Katie cannot participate in everyday activities like a normal fourteen year old, birthday parties, sleepovers or hanging out at the mall as she is under constant supervision for her safely. This service dog would greatly enhance the quality of Katie's daily life and could provide the necessary care which could prove to be lifesaving.

Why would I be doing this you ask? I am doing this for Katie to be able to enjoy everyday life activities as anyone her age should be doing, for the friendship as we have known her since kindergarten and respect I have for their family as they are in my community and are induring this hardship which can be greatly improved through this incredible service dog. She is also part of our Orange County family and community. Helping our community members in need is part of "Loving your neighbour".
