I have been playing pool (8-ball) since August 2021. I entered a team to play teams league to get a feel for competitive play and the team performed shockingly well. The ladies open trials followed soon after. My team mates encouraged me to participate in the trials to get some more practice and experience. After some consideration, I decided that it could only do me good to enter. I was unfortunately overrun with experienced players, but I made it through the ranks and subsequently qualified to represent Sedibeng Pool Association (SPA) in the South African Ladies National Pool Championships. The revelation left me shocked, but equally excited. My two team mates (Christo van der Berg and Jono Honiball) have also been given the opportunity to referee in the same championship. Representing SPA as referees at the National Championship, will avail opportunities to further their refereeing profiles to national level. We are all honored to be recognized for the progress we have in the past eight months of playing. Pool is unfortunately classified as a small sports code, and as such, clubs do not receive the sponsorships or grants that we feel the sport rightfully deserves. The players are encouraged to seek sponsorship to pay towards the costs incurred every year to ensure that they do not lose their chance of national competition. The costs to be covered include accommodation, transport, registration & game fees, clothing, and meals. The championship is scheduled to take place in Saldanha, Western Cape from 4 June 2022 to 11 June 2022. We have been presented with an opportunity to gain valuable experience by competing against the best of all national clubs. Exposure to national competition always contribute to improving one's game tremendously when measured against any other bar. Any contribution will be highly appreciated.
