In brief, birth asphyxia occurs when an infant does not receive enough oxygen when born, potentially leading to difficulty breathing. It can happen just before, during, or after birth. This also causes a buildup of acid in the stomach. In mild or moderate cases, babies may recover fully. However, in severe cases birth asphyxia causes permanent damage to the brain and organs and can be fatal. Zahari was officially diagnosed with severe case of celebral palsy which has left him with no motor skills, severe visual impairment and he is feeding through a gastric nasal tube.
A team of dedicated doctors at the Fortis memorial institute at Gurgaon Haryana, India are still trying to stabilise him in the intensive care unit after he developed seizures while undergoing treatment. Zahari has had the best of the very best doctors caring for him through out his life and helping him build a rehab program that will hopefully lead to his motor disability and functionality of his organs to enable him be able to support himself as a human being.
The team of doctors attending to him include Neurologist, a genetic team, metabolics team, immunologist and physiotherapy. This treatment and wide consultations has overstretched the parents and well-wishers to a point of leading them to turn to you our well wisher for your donation. The boy is a fighter and in the past 3 months he has made positive steps in the right direction however there is dire need for intensive care and rehabilitation. The rehab again will need the support by occupational therapist, speech pathologists, opthalmologist, dieticians, physiotherapist and Neurologist. Zahari is supposed to transition to the private hospital system. The cost of this Therapy is around $100,000 per year.
