The situation in Burma (Myanmar) On the Monday 1 February the military launched a coup in Burma (Myanmar) and kicked out the democratically elected civilian government. The people of Burma have shown huge opposition to the coup with hundreds of thousands of protesters risking their lives and livelihoods to stand up for democracy. Military generals have deployed troops to major cities but the movement is growing with strikes and protests being staged across the country. Protesters face tough conditions Protesters are braving threats of violence and intimidation with scores of protestrrs killed and injured. Many protestrrs endure the sweltering days with no income and risk a brutal crackdown at any time. They need our help to keep up the pressure. Can you chip in to provide the protesters with food and water so they can continue? Buy a meal and some water for a protester It only costs about a dollar to provide a meal and a drink for a protester as everything is prepared, packaged and delivered by volunteers. It gives people such a lift to have meal handed to them for free while they are on the frontlines of a protest. It’s a great way to show that people across the world care about the struggle for democracy in Burma. Our goal is to provide at least 10,000 meals to democracy protesters in the next four weeks. Any donations over our target means even more support that we can deliver. We will be sending the money direct to the organisers who will prepare and distribute the meals.
