Project titled: Strengthening Leadership Skills for the Internally Displaced Ageing People through Eye Care and Sustainable Volunteers Services ⦁
Strengthening Leadership Skills for the elderly Internally Displaced Age People in through Eye Care and Sustainable Volunteers Services seeks to empower and build quality eye care through community palliative care services for the elderly offers aid to the internally displaced age persons; and psycho-social counseling currently available.
Project Activities ⦁ Provide relief from pain and other distressing symptoms ⦁ Affirm life and regard dying as a normal process with intend neither to ⦁ hasten or postpone death ⦁ Integrate the psychological and spiritual aspects of Ageing care offer community volunteers support system to help aged live as actively as possible until death ⦁ Offer volunteers support system to help the family cope during illness and in their own bereavement ⦁ Use a team approach to address the needs of ageing and their families, ⦁ including counseling services at community level.
Project important the ageing of populations is rapidly accelerating worldwide. For the first timein history, most people can expect to live into their 60s and beyond. ⦁ ⦁ More Aged people live healthier and longer, healthier lives now than at any time in human history. Yet, hundreds of millions remain deeply impoverished and vulnerable. Furthermore, bad governance, violence, and conflict have driven an increasing number of aged persons from their homes and even to flee their country to stay alive (only to those whose children work and live abroad). And, often, once their plight fades from the world’s media, they are left to lead a precarious existence, hosted predominantly by communities with limited resources. The security situation continues to be volatile across the NW and SW. There are worrying number of kidnappings, and killing of old people who cannot move out of their homes have increased drastically over the last two years. Some aged persons have been reported burnt in their homes since they are unable to run to the bushes or other secured locations. There have been many attacks on schools indicating an up scaling of the enforcement of the ‘no schools’ policy. In the NW, Tubah is the host of the Bamenda University and many other higher learning institutions in the region, violence confrontations takes place regularly between armed secessionists and security forces, living many home destroyed rendering the aged more vulnerable and miserable to their only source of income. ⦁ Human rights are the universal freedoms and entitlements of individuals and groups that are protected by law.These include civil and political rights, such as the right to life, as well as social, economic and cultural rights, which include rights to health, social security and housing. All rights are interrelated, interdependent and inalienable and includes the aged and the ageing.
Project Impact ⦁ We will base our measurable goals on activities carried out within the community, number of elderly internally displace, total number of traditional volunteers trained, number of community volunteers trained, printed flyers, for door post and, community eye care center for palliative services for the elderly. ⦁ Number of community volunteers on palliative eye health care trainers, trained to transmit acquired skills to impact others in locality. ⦁ Number of visits for Intercultural discussion with community leaders, the chiefs and Ngumba’s. ⦁ The effected social change will be knowledge gained by individuals who will effect change of attitude and mind set on the aged, ageing and the internally displaced aged persons. within the communities in the Tubah municipality. These individuals will collectively work toward a common goal and respect for the ageing and the internally displaced persons while at the same time respect gender rights with mass collective participation in policy plan and decision making in view of their values and rights. Massive participation in the execution of community volunteers palliative eye health programs. Learning institutions and state cooperation will equally gain ground and knowledge on community volunteers on ageing needs and eye health care as being urgent and life serving within communities. ⦁ More Aged people live healthier and longer, healthier lives now than at any time in human history. Yet, hundreds of millions remain deeply impoverished and vulnerable. Furthermore, bad governance, violence, and conflict have driven an increasing number of aged persons from their homes and even to flee their country to stay alive (only to those whose children work and live abroad). And, often, once their plight fades from the world’s media, they are left to lead a precarious existence, hosted predominantly by communities with limited resources ⦁ The shifts we expect to make in this project will give the community an opportunity to learn and gain knowledge on caring for the elderly and internally displaced aged persons most of whom suffer from eye health difficulties.
Project sustainability The project activities will run for 12 months, and ongoing through our community palliative care and eye health initiative and regular follow-up. This will be done through lobbying of traditional leaders, community women's groups, faith base groups. Traditional development groups and others. purchased of accessed ageing needs like; Blankets, cooking utensils, food supplies and other life sustaining needs, printing of community volunteer's on palliative eye health care trainers, trained to transmit acquired skills to impact others in locality. It will consist of 20 and 30 youth trainers to eventually transmit knowledge to others in Tubah Municipality on Ageing, Health Care and support system as a community base approach. The volunteer support system will further help the family cope during illness and in their own bereavement using a team approach to address the needs of ageing and their families, including counseling service at community level
