Over 7319 pregnancy cases were registered in Kasese district in a period of 6 months and over 115 cases were below the age of 15 years. When Mountain Foundation team carried out research, it found out the main causes of this being poverty and lack of information on sexual reproductive health. Most young girls in the community of Kasese district end up having sex in search for money to buy sanitary pads they use during their menstraul periods.
As Uganda is in the second lockdown, and almost facing the third wave of COVID-19, there is worry that as long as the health of young girls is not prioritized during emergencies, teenage pregnancies that eventually lead to unsafe abortion and early maternal deaths will continue to surge. We therefore as Mountain Foundation team seek for your support to help us stop this in our district. We have already started up a sanitary pads project and we would like to supply 5 million sanitary pads to the girls in kasese district and then we later teach them how to make the re-useable ones.
