Climate change is changing the normal lives of normal people each and every day, as the global temperatures rise due to emissions of greenhouse gases - GHG i.e. carbon dioxide(CO2), Methane(CH4), and Nitrous oxide(N2O). As the solar ice caps melt, flooding is wreaking havoc causing death of our loved ones and displacing and destroying homes. Wildfires and drought have also become a constant threat to our survival.
It's not all gloom and doom if we TAKE ACTION TODAY, even small steps to reduce the carbon footprint can make a difference.
A household in Africa typically uses firewood for cooking fuel which contributes carbon dioxide(CO2) into the atmosphere. Households in Africa living on subsistence farming also maintain sizable herds of dairy cows and or goats for milk production. These dairy animals are a major source of methane gas(CH4) in the atmosphere in two ways. Through enteric fermentation in their guts, they release methane gas and also through their excretions which are stocked up before being used as manure.
This program is seeking funding to install 30 biogas digesters in 30 households(unit cost $1,000 per biogas digester) in Africa to provide methane gas as fuel which will eliminate cutting down of trees for firewood which when burnt releases carbon dioxide and also reduce the methane gas that is produced when excretions of dairy animals are stocked up to compost.
The project will implement a sustainable financing model where the beneficiaries would contribute a small monthly token of $30 for 3 years after installation to recover the cost and the funds would be used to install the next biogas digester and the process is repeated at another household.
Join in to save the earth by reducing household greenhouse gas emissions by installing a biogas digester for a household in Africa with a sustainable financing model.
