Hi everyone, My beloved friends, Natalia and Eugeniu Ciobirca, have just had their world turned into turmoil as their only son was recently diagnosed with Ependymoma – a rare type of brain tumour. Kirill had just celebrated his 4th birthday a few days before the symptoms of the tumour started to show. Kirill was perfectly healthy and looking forward to returning to playschool after lockdown when he began complaining of headaches and vomiting and gradually over a two week span, became very weak. While his friends returned to playschool, Kirill faced nine weeks in Temple Street Hospital where he underwent life threatening surgery to have the tumour removed. This was followed by two further operations as complications set in and a week in induced coma. Kirill faced learning to speak again and is currently learning to walk again. Natalia and Eugeniu are so grateful to the staff at Temple Street Hospital for the incredible work they are doing with Kirill. As part of Kirill’s long road to recovery, he will have to undergo two months of Proton Beam Therapy in Germany. While the treatment itself is covered by the HSE, the family will face significant costs as they move to Germany with Kirill and their other daughter, Kira for the two months. Both Natalia and Eugeniu have been unable to work since Kirill became ill as they needed to care for him and Kira.
