Orangutans are one of animals that are considered human-like. According to the National Geographic page, orangutan have DNA that is almost similiar to humans. In addition ,this animal can only be found in Indonesia.
Data from IUCN states that there are 100 thousand species in Kalimantan. Less than 14 thousand species are On Sumatra and less then 800 are Tapanuli. There are many unique things about this animals that sould be our reason to protect it from extinction. Reporting from the from the world Atlas, here are the unique facts about orangutans that we must protect.!
1. He is nicknamed the forest man because of this resemblance to humans
Reporting from National Geographic ,orangutans are animals that are closest to humans . This unique animal is estimated to have DNA that is percent human-like.
Physically, there are similarities between humans and orangutans are more closely related to humans than chimpanzees .In addition, the intelligence possessed by orangutans in using everyday tools is arguably similiar to humans ,you know. No wonder it's nicknamed the Forest Man.
2. Females only give birth once every eight years
The birth period of baby orangutan is said to be the longest compared to other land mammals. Females can only give birth to one ore two bebies in every eight years. After birth ,the baby and the mother will stay for 6-7 years and form a bond. Females care for their babies as completly as humans,Reporting from the live science page, males will travel alone, while females look after their young. Orangutans who are female will reproduce at the age of 18 years, while males will be sexually active at the age of 15 years.
3. Sleeping, eating, even playing in trees. Orangutan prefer to spend 90 percent of their life trees .They can play, sleep and even eat for along time in the nest they make.
Orangutans make swing from one tree branch to another to play with. Sometimes,we see them hanging upside down on trees for long periods of time. If they were on the ground, they would crawl around and could never stay there long.
4. Orangutans build nests that are used for sleeping purposes .for mountaineers ,finding the swing mounted ontop of the tree is common. Orangutans always make their nests in the trees. Ussually, nests are built on tall trees to protect them from wild animals.
The nests is made of tree branches which are designed to be comfortable. In designing them, they took ten minutes of practice. During the rainy season, they will build of roof on their nest.
Because many oil palm companies have cleared new land for orangutan habitat to be threatened with ectinction. The funds that can be obtained will be given to the existing orangutan breeding centers .So that orangutan captivity can continue its activities in caring for orangutans before being released back into the forest that is free from oil palm company company.
