Introduction
Malawi youth make up a significant portion of the population and have the potential to be an asset in the sustainable economic development of the country. Historically, youth have been marginalized from participating in Malawi's development due to in large to the inaccessible opportunities available to develop youth potential. According to the Integrated Household Survey of Malawi " the IHS(2011) estimates that 50.7% of the population lives below the poverty line and 25% being ultra poor. Considering that youth constitute more than 40% of the population it can be safely concluded that the majority of the poor are also youth". As poverty continues to block youths' ability to contribute to community development, alternative solutions are needed to address the challenges inhibiting youth from reaching their full potential. The government is making concentrated efforts to empower youth, but many communities lack the ability to tackle youth issues on grassroots level. The youth center is a unique response to this gap in the country's youth development programming and will exist to serve the needs on a community level.
Defined by the Malawi Youth Policy as all persons from the age of 10 to 35 years regardless of their sex,race, education, culture, religion, economic, Marital and physical status.
The coming up of the youth centre was to build the capacity of young people and increase community investment in youth development. The center is located on kachere Beach, Nkhatabay. The center will serve as s safe space for all Youth to gather, learn, and become leaders for sustainable change. The center has programming focused on four topic's: education, vocational training, community development and recreation. The program s will be run by community leaders thus include youth themselves, business owner's, and I local teachers.
Therefore, the funding we are raising will help in constructing the desired center which will facilitate the establishment process. The funds to be raised will help us to purchase construction materials like cement, iron sheets windows flames and other learning materials like furniture and many other. Your donation or support will be highly appreciated.
