Every year, not less than 2000l slow lorises become hunting objects to be traded as pets. Not a few of them eventually died at the hands of hunters, traders and even keepers. This crime chain is not only the process of taking slow lorises from their home, but also painful cruel process.
The cruelty makes the slow lorises weak and short-lived due to severe mouth infections. This heinous practice will continue to repeat as long as the interest in maintaining slow lorises is still growing and the perpetrators of crimes benefit from the transaction they carry out.
At least 200 slow lorises are currently undergoing treatment at rehabilitation center in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. Most of them are trafficked victims who have been foiled by law enforcement officers and also by people who have become aware of the importance of slow lorises.
Unfortunately, not all slow lorises in the rehabilitation center are in good health. Tooth decay, gunshot wounds, illnessess and permanent dissabilities arising from the maintenance process are complex problems faced by animal nurse to restore the condition of slow lorises. Of the many slow lorises treated, only 30% of them still have the chance to be returned to nature.
While handling slow lorises at the rehabilitation center, at least one slow loris needs a minimum of US $714,3 per year. This number will be even greater if slow lorises need medical treatment such as surgery.
The donation collected will be used for the preservation of slow lorises program that includes efforts to rescue, rehabilitation, release, and monitoring.
In addition to help with donations, you can also contribute to the rescue of slow lorises by spreading this message. Invite the people closest to you not to be part of the slow lorises trade chain by not buying and not maintaining.
