When they're hungry, children are more likely to be hospitalized, and they face a higher risk of health conditions because they have weakened immune systems. A brain starved of vital nutrients is one that can't concentrate, setting hungry kids up for failure in school.
Child poverty refers to the state of children living in poverty and applies to children from poor families and orphans being raised with limited or no state resources. UNICEF estimates that 356 million children live in extreme poverty.
Hunger is real and people are getting desperate. There are thousands of vulnerable families who currently have no income and no idea where their next meal is coming from. It's scary. And it can be fixed with an essential food parcel.
WHO WILL BENEFIT? Children, the elderly and families from impoverished communities who are hungry and have no or insufficient income, as a result of COVID-19. This includes: Children, families and staff of local ECD centresWomen and men enrolled on The Clothing Bank programmes, who cannot earn an income from their informal trading, to feed their families and communities Community feeding projects and networks who are working in those communities to feed the hungry.
WHAT IS BEING DONATED? Each Food Parcel contains essentials such as rice, lentils, oil, peanut butter, pasta, peas, flour, tea, sugar, fish, maize and beans etc. One parcel will feed a family of four for a week.
