Kathy is an American elderly woman from Texas who now resides in Abuja Nigeria. She runs a foster care home for children with severe disabilities and developmental issues and Aids and HIV. This is her story:
Kathy came to Abuja Nigeria from the United States years ago for work. She was already close to retirement and this stint in Nigeria would have been her final year of working before retiring back home. But as fate would have it, she came in contact with a young 8 year old girl who severe developmental issues whom a local government foster home could not handle. They were looking for someone to adopt her but because of the severity of her case no one wanted to house her. The child would need around the clock care and attention. Without a batting an eye, Kathy took her in. This would be the start of Kathy's foster house. Other homes reached out when they heard about Kathy and brought her more kids that no one else wanted to take in. To date Kathy has now 12 children in her care. Ranging from 2 years old all the way to teenagers. Retiring back home is now no longer in the cards for Kathy. She has decided to remain in Nigeria to house, feed, clothe and provide for these children. Children afflicted with not just disabilities and developmental issues but serious diseases like Aids and HIV. This also requires medication wich Kathy buys. My mother met Kathy 4 years ago and they have been good friends ever since. Kathy is an amazing woman and even at her age, she is in her early 70's. She is full of energy and life. Before covid, she received aid from different organizations as well private donors from embassies and businesses. However most of this aid has dried up with people leaving the country and money going to covid related issues. Today Kathy is behind on her rent and has trouble keeping the light on and feeding and providing for her children. My mother and I have tried and help as much as we can but they will need more money than we can provide to pay for a year of rent on their home and have some money left over for food and medication etc. Right now they will need 2000$ ASAP to pay for 6 months of rent. Ideally we want to raise 5000$ to pay for a year of rent and have a 1000$ to give to Kathy. Please help provide for this amazing woman and her foster children. She has chosen to provide for those that were forgotten and unwanted and sacrificed her own late years of comfort back home to do so. Lets show her that they are not forgotten and we will step in and help them!
